Communication Modes
Communication mode
refers to the direction in which data and information are transmitted between
devices.
There are three types of
communication modes:
1. Simplex Mode
In simplex mode,
data is transmitted in one direction only. The receiver cannot send data
back.
Examples:
- Radio broadcasting
- Television broadcasting
- Newspaper
- Books
Flow:
Sender → Receiver
2. Half-Duplex Mode
In half-duplex mode,
data can flow in both directions, but only one direction at a time.
Examples:
- Walkie-talkie
- Wireless handsets
Flow:
Sender ⇄ Receiver (one at a time)
3. Full-Duplex Mode
In full-duplex mode,
data can flow in both directions at the same time.
Examples:
- Mobile phones
- Landline phones
Flow:
Sender ⇄ Receiver
(simultaneously)
